While at work recently, I received an email from an online travel agency to confirm an airline reservation I did not make. I live on the west coast. The ticket was scheduled round trip for a male person I do not know, traveling to and from two cities on the East coast which I neither live nor plan to visit for the scheduled ticket dates. I immediately called the online travel agency used to purchase this mystery ticket and told them that I was confused as to why they would be sending me a travel confirmation for a purchase I had not initiated or approved. I told them I do not know anyone by the name listed on the ticket or even anyone living in the city of destination. I said that it was a fraudulent charge and needed to be canceled promptly, to which they responded that it was not possible because it was a purchase made with my credit card information. When I pressed for further details they simply told me that it was my own problem. I again asked to have it canceled so that no one could use this fraudulent ticket, but they refused to do so.

Next I called my credit card company and told them that my card had been used against my will and to please cancel my card right away. I also called the airline the ticket was booked for and asked that they not allow anyone to use this ticket because it was fraudulent.

The airline would not refund my ticket and told me that I needed to go through the travel agency in which the ticket was purchased. The travel agency refused to do anything because it appeared to have been purchased using my credit card, so they were no help. And finally my credit card company after weeks of waiting told me there was nothing more they could do. That’s when I found The Bitter Buyer and within just a short amount of time they were able to recoup all of my money!
